Other School Board Agenda Items
SYRACUSE — Other agenda items during the Wawasee school board meeting Tuesday, April 18, included:
• Fairfield High School radio/TV students Michael Shetler and Andrew Mamone were recognized for finishing third in the Indiana Association of School Broadcasters state competition at the University of Indianapolis. Fairfield students come to Wawasee as part of the Pathways cooperative program.
• The Red Cross collected 59 units of blood during a blood drive held at Wawasee High School in March.
• Susan Mishler, principal of Wawasee Middle School, was recognized for graduating from the Indiana Principal Leadership Institute.
• Milford School was awarded a $45,000 Title I school improvement grant from the Indiana Department of Education. Funds are designed to support school improvement activities.
• The school corporation was awarded a $12,500 grant from the Dekko Foundation for the summer ECO Challenge program.
• Dekko awarded a $5,000 grant for the sensory room in the special education area of Wawasee High School.
• Holly Tuttle, representing Women of Today, presented a $3,000 check as a donation to the school corporation to be used as needed.
• The board approved several steps in the final stages of the bond issue for summer construction projects, including entering into a lease agreement with the building corporation at the high school.
• The board approved out of state trips for sixth-graders at Milford School to Dearborn, Mich., WHS art students to the Art Institute of Chicago and WHS physics class students to Cedar Point.
• And the board approved offering high school credit and a ninth grade level agriculture class for eighth grade students at Milford Middle School, and a pre-engineering class for eighth-graders at Wawasee Middle School.
