John Alan Groat — UPDATED
John Alan Groat, Warsaw, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2017, in his home. He was 67 at the time of his passing.
John was the son of John R. and Ethel L. (Anderson) Groat. He was a 1967 graduate of Warsaw Community High School.
John was married to Joyce E. Easterday on June 26, 1971 in Columbia City’s Faith Baptist Church. Joyce survives in Fort Wayne.
He had worked for DePuy as a machinist for more than 30 years. He was a former member of Warsaw Wesleyan Church and enjoyed congregational singing at church. He enjoyed many types of music, especially traditional Christian hymns.
Those who survive include his wife of 45 years, Joyce Groat of Fort Wayne; daughter and son-in-law, Ethel and Rod Massing of Fort Wayne; two grandsons, Kevin Massing of Columbus, Ohio; and Donavin Massing of Fort Wayne; and his brother, Robert Groat of Richland, Missouri.
Those who preceded John in passing include his mother, Ethel Groat, father, John R. Groat, step-mother, Nellie Groat, and two sisters, Alma Ragan and Eva Engle.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, April 21, in Titus Funeral Home. Visitation will take place an hour before the service. Pastor Denny Bollenbacher, New Beginnings Church, Atwood, will officiate. Burial will take place at Oakwood Cemetery.
