Wawasee Tennis: Cougs Stifle Lady Warriors
SYRACUSE – Wawasee put up a good fight Monday evening against Central Noble, but couldn’t get the right combos working in a 4-1 girls tennis loss.
Three of the courts went to three sets, Central Noble taking two of them, along with a pair of straight-set wins in singles play.
Erika Maneke and Maggie Kaiser both won in straights at one and two singles for Central, Maneke 6-4, 6-1 over Meg Heinisch and Kaiser 6-3, 6-1 against Peyton Rookstool. At No. 3, Erin Maneke claimed a 4-6, 6-4, 6-1 win over Elizabeth Kleopfer.
Central really had to work for its No. 1 doubles victory, with Ellie Cole and Audrey Magnuson exhausting Kabrea Rostochak and Kendra Doerr 6-3, 6-7, 7-5. The lone Wawasee tally came at two doubles, where Courtney Larson and Taylor Mock won its marathon over Hannah Geiger and Anna Jank 3-6, 6-2, 6-3.
“Major improvement over last year’s contest versus Central Noble,” stated Wawasee head coach Shane Staley. “We were two courts into very competitive third sets away from turning a 4-1 loss into a 3-2 win against a tough and much older Central Noble team.”
JV action saw Wawasee go 3-5 against Central Noble. Winning for Wawasee included Kaitlyn Graber in singles play, and the duos of Aurelia Stephens and Kennedy Church as well as Brittney Jackson and Molly Jones in doubles play.
Wawasee (2-5) will get back into Northern Lakes Conference play Tuesday when Concord visits Syracuse.
