Warsaw Sports Wrap: April 14
The third time was the charm for the Warsaw baseball team Friday night.
The Tigers, playing their third game in three days, picked up their first win of the season.
Host Warsaw topped Columbia City by a 14-5 count in a non-conference matchup at WCHS.
Alex Miller went 3-3 at the plate with a pair of doubles to lead the way for Warsaw, which improved to 1-2 on the young season. Miller also drove in four runs in the win.
Braxton Tennant cracked a pair of doubles and had three RBI in the win. Luke Baker was 2-2 with a double and drove in a pair for the Tigers.
Matt Francis notched the pitching win for Warsaw.
Warsaw hosts South Bend Riley Saturday at 10 a.m. The Tigers then open Northern Lakes Conference play at Wawasee on Monday evening.
Boys Track
Members of the Warsaw boys track team competed in the Lafayette Jefferson Sprinters Showcase Friday night.
The 4 X 100 team of Alijah Wade, Rane Kilburn, Tristan Larsh and Will McGarvey earned a second place finish with a time of 43.38.
Wade placed ninth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.47 for the Tigers.
Warsaw (1-1) returns to conference action on Thursday night with a meet at Northridge versus the host Raiders and Wawasee.
Girls Track
The Warsaw girls track team took part in a pair of events Friday night.
The 4 x 800 relay team of Remi Beckham, Emma Bohnenkamper, Taylor Gunter and Lauren Orr placed fifth in the Franklin Central Distance Showcase with a time of 9:48.54.
Also at the Franklin Central event, Mia Beckham was ninth in the 1,600 with a time of 5:13.35.
Angie Sanchez-Vijil had a personal best time of 5:17.69 in the 1,600 for Warsaw. Also competing in the 1,600 were Charlene Orr (5:19.71), Anna Craig (5:22.47) and Allison Miller (5:36.59).
At the Lafayette Jefferson Sprinters Showcase, the 4 X 100 team of Shunterra Davis, Maygan Bellamy, Abbi Curtis and Makayla Clampitt placed fourth overall with a time of 49.57.
Bellamy was 12th in the 200 with a time of 26.98 and Davis was 13th in the event with a time of 27.09.
The 100-meter race was cancelled due to lightning.
Warsaw (3-0) returns to action on Thursday night for a conference meet at Concord versus the hosts and Elkhart Memorial.
