Burneida May Hodson-UPDATED
Burneida May Hodson, 95, Columbia City, passed away Wednesday, April 12, at Miller’s at Oak Pointe. Born Feb.17, 1922, in Jefferson Township, she was the daughter of Albert F. and Ruth (Gardner) Loutzenhiser.
She graduated Jefferson Center High School class of 1940 and attended Warner’s Beauty College and Ravenscroft Beauty College, where she graduated as a beautician and hairstylist. On Oct. 3, 1942, she married Austin Lewis Hodson.
In addition to being a devoted homemaker and mother, she retired in 1982 after 40 years of service as a hair stylist and as the founder and owner of the Beauty Boutique. She was a member of the Columbia City First Church of God. A longtime resident of Whitley County, Burneida would spend several winter months along with a few years in Sebring, Fla. In her spare time, Burneida enjoyed tending to her garden and flowers, volunteering with food pantries and had been an Avon representative for many years.
Survivors include her daughter: Lynda Ruth (Joe) Aker, Wendell, N.C.; son: Darrell (Charlene) Hodson, Columbia City; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband: Austin Hodson on Dec. 30, 2010; and sister: Inez Loutzenhiser.
Visitation is 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Friday, April 14, at DeMoney-Grimes, a Life Story Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City. Funeral services are 10 a.m., Saturday, April 15, at the funeral home with Pastor Jim Martin officiating. Burial will follow at Covington Memorial Gardens.
