Triton Sports Wrap: April 11
Baseball
LaVille posted a huge rally in the sixth to come back and stun Triton, 9-3, Tuesday in Hoosier North Athletic Conference ball in Bourbon.
The Lancers trailed 3-1 in the sixth but hung a snowman in the inning to hand Triton its first loss of the season.
Anthony Felke, Adam Steinke, Jimmy Fischer and Nick Moore all had two hits for LaVille while Connor Wieczorek drove in a pair. Eight of the nine Lancers scored a run in the contest. Justin DeClark allowed just three hits and no earned runs to get the win, walking zero and striking out five.
Zac Pitney hit a two-run homer in Triton’s three-run third, with Dylan Hensley driving in Max Slusser with the other run-scoring play for the Trojans. Pitney was charged with the loss, giving up nine runs but only one of those was listed as earned.
Triton falls to 2-1 overall and 1-1 in the HNAC, its next contest Thursday at Plymouth.
Softball
In a rescheduled game in the HNAC, Triton visited Knox and came away with a 10-3 loss.
Courtney Jennings led Triton with a two-run homer and was 3-for-3 on the day with a pair of runs scored. Kate Gardner added two hits and a run. Taytum Hargrave added an RBI single.
Knox took an early 4-0 lead, and after Triton cut the lead to 5-3, scored the game’s final five runs. Makenzie Morgan had three hits and three RBIs to pace the Redskins, Leslie Kroft had three hits and two runs scored, and Liz McEntee had two hits and two RBIs.
McKenzie McIntire went the distance for Knox, striking out nine for the win. Jennings took the loss, giving up nine runs in five innings.
Knox moves to 3-0 and 1-0 in the HNAC. Triton falls to 3-2 and 1-0. Triton plays again Thursday at Shanklin Park against Goshen.
