Syracuse Pizza Hut, Brewery Receive Alcohol Permits
WARSAW — Warsaw’s typical excise officer, April Tackett, was out for this month’s Alcohol Beverage Board meeting, April 6, and Jesica Hyndman filled in. The meeting was quiet, with most permits being renewed without violation.
Eight licenses were automatically renewed without violations and were approved. These are:
- Dolegencorp, LLC, doing business as Dollar General, 9554 W. SR 25, Mentone. Beer and wine dealer permit.
- American Legion post 253, 765 S. SR 13, North Webster. Beer, wine and liquor permit.
- Freeland Enterprises, Inc., doing business as Pizza Hut, 502 N. Detroit St., Warsaw. Beer and wine retailer permit.
- Shaffner & Schaffner Ent. Inc., doing business as Bennigan’s Grill & Tavern, 2521 E. Center St., Warsaw. Beer, wine and liquor permit.
- El Cielo Restaurant and Bar LLC, 520 E. Winona Ave., Warsaw. Beer, wine and liquor permit.
- 701 Tap House LLC, 701 N. Huntington St., Syracuse. Beer, wine and liquor permit.
- Saint Regis Club LLC, doing business as Oak and Alley, 114 S. Buffalo St., Warsaw. Beer, wine and liquor permit.
- H M R Acquisition Company, Inc., doing business as Hacienda Mexican Restaurant, 3805 Lake City Highway, Warsaw. Beer, wine and liquor permit.
The following had violations:
- La Troje LLC, 115 S. Buffalo St., Warsaw. Beer, wine and liquor permit. Juan Flores was present to speak to the board. The violation comes from sale to a minor, a minor being allowed to loiter in the bar area and lacking an employee permit for an employee serving alcohol. Flores insisted the incident was a poor decision made by a new employee. Flores paid the fines and the employee has received their permit. The board approved the renewal of the permit.
- Pure Pleasure, doing business as Pizza King, 719 S. Huntington St., Syracuse. Beer and wine retailer permit. Delight Rushlow was present before the board. The violation is in relation to an employee serving alcohol to a minor. Rushlow insisted it is policy to always card for ID and there are now signs for employees stating their employment can be immediately terminated for not carding. A fine of $750 was paid. The board approved the permits renewal.
Two new permits were reviewed:
- Freeland Enterprises, Inc., doing business as Pizza Hut, 1112 S. Huntington Rd., Syracuse. Beer, wine and liquor permit. General manager Steve Taylor and area coach Bill Miller were present. The facility acquired a wine permit a few months ago while waiting for a beer and wine permit to become available. A riverfront beer, wine and liquor permit had since become available and was immediately applied for. The restaurant will be able to serve beer and liquor pending the state approval. The board approved.
- K H Brewing Co. LLC, doing business as Hoplore Brewing Co., 100 S. Old SR 15, Leesburg. Beer and wine retailer. Stefan King represented Hoplore; the company is seeking a beer and wine permit to be able to serve beer purchased from the South Bend parent brewery before receiving their own brewing permit. The board approved.
There was one permit transferred:
- Bar 13, LLC, 131 N. First St., Pierceton. Beer, wine and liquor permit. The permit is a transfer; Jared Pagan advised that he has purchased an existing bar, Pastime, and the building next to it, and is looking to expand. The board approved.
The new permit for the Winona Lake Heritage Room was continued until next meeting, 1 p.m. May 4.
