Free Garden Spots Available For Mentone Residents
MENTONE — Free garden spots are being offered to residents of Mentone. This is good news for those who would like to plant a garden but do not have room on their property.
The Town of Mentone has several acres of land north of Mentone, just off SR 19 at the Wastewater Treatment Plant. Garden spots are available there free of charge.
The town will plow and/or disk to help prepare the ground for planting. Water is available at that location. Anyone planting a garden there will just need to bring a bucket to transport the water.
There is also a community farmers’ market that will be held from 8 a.m. to noon every Saturday. The first day for the farmers’ market is May 13 and it will run through October. People can plant vegetables or flowers and sell those items at the farmers’ market, which is located at the corner of Main and Tucker Streets in Mentone.
Anyone interested in a garden spot should contact Ron Scott at (574) 353-7460. To reserve a spot at the farmers market, contact Shelly Krueger at [email protected].
Tim Croy, Mentone town council member and Mentone chamber member, states, “This is one way for the town to give back to the community.”
