WARSAW — A Fort Wayne women was arrested for neglect of a dependent after she left a small, male child alone in a trailer court for two hours. Witnesses saw the child walking around alone wearing a short-sleeved shirt and pajama pants with no shoes or socks.
Deanna M. Geberin, 23, 7921 Westwick Place, Fort Wayne, is being charged with neglect of a dependent, a level 6 felony.
On March 21, officers with the Warsaw Police Department responded to a call of a small, male child wandering around Shamrock Trailer Court in Warsaw. The child was wearing a short-sleeved shirt and pajama pants with no shoes or socks. The officers took custody of the child and went door to door trying to locate where the child belonged.
According to the affidavit of probable cause, at 11:10 a.m. Geberin flagged down the officers looking for her child. She stated that she had left for a job interview at 8:45 a.m. and the babysitter did not show up on time. According to Geberin, the child was sleeping so she decided to leave him alone in the residence.
Officers determined that the child was left alone for approximately two hours. During this time period the child was unsupervised, underdressed to be outside and walking around the trailer park during high traffic time. All of this put the child in harm’s way.
Geberin was booked into the Kosciusko County Jail on March 21 with a $5,250 surety and cash bond.
