Teachers At Akron Elementary Get Pied In The Face For Good Cause
AKRON — Akron Elementary schoolers had a huge reason to celebrate on Wednesday, March 29. During a two week period, the school raised $2,589.55 for the Riley Children’s Foundation. Before the fundraising began, students were given a goal of $2,000. Meeting the goal meant that 10 lucky teachers and staff members got pied in the face.
Students met their goal by participating in a two-week long penny war. Students were also able to purchase tickets for sunglasses, hat and electronic days.
This year, the students raised more money than ever before. Principal Chrissy Mills credited the success of the campaign to the fact that teachers volunteered to get pied in the face. In previous years, Mills has kissed a pig and been duct taped to a wall in celebration of met goals.
“They’ll already be thinking about next year,” commented Mills. “It makes me proud of what the can accomplish.”
The unlucky victims included Mrs Baxter, Miss Gast, Mr. Ocock, Mrs. Ocock, Principal Mill, Mrs. Hohman, Mrs. Parson, Mrs. Rassi, Mrs. Miller and Mrs. Bell.
Principal Mills was pied by Derek Craft, who is a former Riley kid. Mills explained that Craft was so excited for the fundraiser that he had his whole family gathering pennies. Craft didn’t take all the credit for his fundraising, he let fellow classmates put some of his pennies into the bucket.
