NorthWood Sports Wrap: March 29
Softball
A Jenkins knocked in a run in the first inning and Tessa Lehman had the big blow, a three-run double in the third to help push NorthWood to a 12-4 win at Tippecanoe Valley Wednesday afternoon.
The game, which was rescheduled from Monday’s poor field conditions in Akron, saw the Panthers score three runs in each of the first, third and seventh innings and club 13 hits in total. Summer Stillson and Alexis Klotz each had three hits and Hannah Stickley and Grace Anglemyer both added doubles.
Klotz got the win, pitching four innings, giving up four hits and striking out three. Stickley worked the final three innings, allowing just two hits and fanning three.
Valley had Kirsten Yoder pace the offense with two hits and two RBIs. Abby Betten had two hits and Katie Prater had a hit and two walks for the Vikings, which played in its first game of the season.
Sydney Howard gave up six hits and four runs to shoulder the loss for the Vikings.
NorthWood (1-2) will host Lakeland Thursday while Valley (0-1) is off until April 10 at Triton.
Baseball
NorthWood continued its good start to the season with an 11-2 win Wednesday at Mishawaka.
Brock Miller and Matt Dutkowski led the Panthers, Miller going 2-4 with an RBI and Dutkowski 1-3 with a double and three driven in.
Sawyer Warren earned the win on the hill for the Panthers.
The JV from NorthWood also beat the Cavement in a 14-2 final. Jason Cripe and Jack Wysong combined to toss a no-hitter for the Panthers. Alec Holcomb, Ethan Miller and Cooper Davis all had extra-base hits to lead the offense, which batted around in the first inning.
NorthWood (2-1) is off until April 10 when it will host West Noble.
Girls Tennis
NorthWood opened its 2017 slate with a 5-0 home win over Elkhart Central.
No. 1 Alex Jesse defeated Mariah Guillaume one and one, No. 2 Reagan Miller shut out Lauren Anderson and No. 3 Hannah Walter beat Katie Lade two and love.
At doubles, No. 1 Jama Rice and Kennedy Weins defeated Gabby Carr and Kelli Lochmandy one and one, and at No. 2, Betsy Nunemaker and Amanda Rhoades beat Hanna Losse and Rylee Wiltfong three and one.
Elkhart was able to win seven of the 13 JV courts.
NorthWood (1-0) will return to action April 11 in hosting Fairfield.
