NorthWood Baseball: No-Hitter Not Good Enough
TOPEKA – NorthWood didn’t allow a hit in its baseball opener at Westview Monday night, but it did allow a run. And that run was all it took in a 1-0 Westview win over the Panthers.
Westview didn’t manage a base hit, but did scratch out six walks and used one from Nick Rensberger in the second inning, the big sophomore coming around to score for the game’s only tally.
That run was enough for Warrior pitcher Houston Haney, who scattered six NorthWood hits in his complete game performance. Haney walked two and struck out seven in his shutout performance. Jaron Mullet had two of the NorthWood hits and Drake Gongwer added a double.
NorthWood starter Gongwer was strong in his season debut, striking out nine and Matt Dutkowski was nearly flawless in relief.
The Panthers, 0-1, will visit Marian Tuesday afternoon.
