NorthWood Track: Panthers Brave Wind, Vikings In Dual Wins
AKRON – NorthWood was just too much for Valley to handle Tuesday night in the outdoor track season openers for both schools at Death Valley. The Panther boys overwhelmed Valley on the track in a 93-30 result while the Lady Panthers had too much depth for the Lady Vikes in a 75-39 result.
NorthWood’s boys took assault of all of the track events, winning all 11 on the oval along with the long jump in the field. Brayton Yoder pulled a double, winning both the 100 (11.51) and the 200 (23.83) as highlights of the NorthWood power surge. Jacob Stump also pulled a double in hurdles, winning both the 110 (15.65) and 300 (45.42).
Garrett Griffin in the 400 (56.03), Noah Price in the 800 (2:32), Caleb Darr in the mile (5:12) and Tyler Evers in the two-mile (12:24) made the clean sweep of the distance events, and the Panthers reigned in the 4×100 (45.44), the 4×400 (3:55) and the 4×800 (9:14.55). Bronson Yoder won the long jump at 19-9.5.
Jameson Baker took the throw double, winning shot put at 44-1.75 and discus at 127-7 to highlight the Valley showings. Keith Wright led a Valley sweep of high jump at 5-6.
In the girls table, Mackenzie Moren and Erica Stutsman were double event winners for the Panthers. Moren went 13.74 in the 100 and 28.69 in the 200 while Stutsman owned the 400 (1:06) and 800 (2:42) runs. Whitney Wolfe continued NorthWood’s strong distance day with a win in the mile (6:04) and Kate Jarvis took the two-mile (12:51).
Neely Trenshaw grabbed the 300 hurdles at 58.37, Jemima Robinson won the long jump at 14-0, the 4×800 relay (10:41), the 4×400 relay (4:37) capped NorthWood’s victories.
Valley used a big rally in the final leg from Sarah Tucker to win the 4×100 relay at 56.97 and Caleigh Bryer won the 100 hurdles at 19.66 to mark the Valley track triumphs. In the field, Olivia Smith topped the high jumpers at 4-4, outdoing Robinson on jumps, and Cora Alber won both the shot put (28-9) and discus (80-2).
NorthWood will compete again next Tuesday in hosting Mishawaka and South Bend Riley. Valley will not compete again until April 11 when it takes on Whitko and host North Miami.
