Wawasee Track: Introductory Lessons At Columbia City
COLUMBIA CITY – Wawasee and Columbia City snuck in a dual track meet Monday night, the Eagles the deeper of the two sides in each format. The City boys beat Wawasee 88-44 while the Lady Eagles came out on top 77-55.
Wawasee had seven winners in each dual of the 16 events run, showing it has some top-half thump but needs help developing its depth.
For the boys, the Griner brothers – Sam and Luke – had a part in three of the seven Wawasee top times. The two teamed with Spencer Hare and Michael Hammer to take the 4×800 relay at 8:51, Sam won the mile at 4:58 and Luke took the half-mile at 2:05. Hare was the two-mile winner at 10:44.
The Warrior 4×100 relay team of Cole VanLue, Michael Katzer, Alec Rosbrugh and Eric Yankosky were tops at 45.63, VanLue took the 100 at 11.28 and Elisha Tipping conquered the shot put with a toss of 44-7.
Jacob Wigent was a double winner for City with a 16.65 in the 110 hurdles and a 44.19 in the 300 hurdles.
Wawasee head coach Scott Lancaster also noted performances from Hammer in the half-mile and Yankosky in pole vault.
In the girls dual, Hannah-Marie Lamle and Elizabeth Zorn were both double winners. Lamle look both the 300 hurdles at 51.85 and the long jump at 15-7 while Zorn took the one and two-miles races at 5:45 and 12:45, respectively.
Wawasee also made hay in the field, with Jada Parzygnot winning pole vault at 8-6, Sara Pritchard in shot put at 28-9 and Alexis Mangas in discus at 92-10.
Jasmine Early paced City with wins in the 400 at 1:00 and the 800 at 2:27.
Wawasee’s boys and girls teams will host Westview Thursday.
