Max E. Miller
Max E. Miller, 87, Leesburg, passed away at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, March 16, 2017 in his residence.
On Dec. 1, 1929, he was born in New Paris to Albert and Caroline (Stump) Miller. He was united in marriage to Florence Elder on Dec. 27, 1959 in Calhoun, Ga., who preceded him in death on Oct. 11, 2011.
Max served our country honorably in the U.S. Air Force after his graduation from New Paris High School from 1948 – 1954. He then worked as a truck driver for Columbia City Freightlines, Lime City Trucking Company, Frontline Manufacturing and Warsaw Truck Company where he retired.
He was a member of American Legion Post #258, Pierceton where he served as Past Commander. He also was 2nd District Commander and Sgt of Arms of Department of Indiana. In July of 2015, he was awarded the Distinguished American Legion Award. He also was a member of VFW Post #985, Goshen, Masonic Lodge, Pierceton, The Shrine Club and Moose Lodge #836, Goshen. Max received Veteran of the Month Award in February of 2016 and also attended the Honor Flight to Washington D.C. Max loved children and volunteered for Habitat of Humanity.
Max is survived by three sons, Dan Elder, Pierceton, Jim (and spouse Ruth) Elder, Warsaw, Max (and spouse Violet) Elder, Pierceton; his daughter, Carol Bragg, Morristown, Tenn.; two nieces, Pam (and spouse Rodney) Smith, Glendale, Ariz.; Bonnie Mooney, Peoria, Ariz.; twenty four grandchildren, fifty great grandchildren and numerous great-great grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by his parents, his daughter, Carol Lee, son, Glen Elder, two brothers, Marion Miller and Russell Miller, one grandchild and one great-great grandchild.
A funeral service will be held at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 22 in McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Pierceton with Lew Collier officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw with military honors provided by American Legion Post #258, Pierceton.
Visitation hours will be from 4–8 p.m. Tuesday, March 21 in the Pierceton funeral chapel with a Masonic Lodge service at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday Evening.
