Cubs Baseball: South Bend To Take On Notre Dame
SOUTH BEND – Before the team begins the 2017 Midwest League regular season, the South Bend Cubs will face the University of Notre Dame baseball team in a 7-inning exhibition game at Four Winds Field on Wednesday, April 5. Tickets are only $5 with all proceeds from ticket sales going to charity.
“Not only does this exhibition game give us the opportunity to once again team up with the University of Notre Dame baseball team, but it allows us to give back to our community,” said South Bend Cubs President Joe Hart. “This game also acts as a dress rehearsal for some of our new gameday staff to ensure everything runs smoothly on Opening Day.”
“We’re excited to play the South Bend Cubs,” said Notre Dame Baseball Head Coach Mik Aoki. “When the South Bend team became a Cubs’ affiliate a few years ago, I feel like it amplified the buzz Andrew Berlin and Joe Hart had already been creating. I’m sure the Cubs World Series Championship will create even more. I hope that sense of excitement will translate into a great crowd for our game.”
Ticket sales from the game will be split between both teams to a charity of their choice. The Fighting Irish will donate their portion to the Pete Frates #3 Fund, which raises money and heightens awareness in the ongoing battle against ALS – Lou Gehrig’s Disease. The South Bend Cubs will announce their charity during a special press conference at a later date.
Tickets are $5 and can be purchased at the South Bend Cubs Box Office, by calling (574) 235-9988 or logging on to SouthBendCubs.com. Gates will open at 5:00 p.m. and first pitch for the exhibition contest is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
The South Bend Cubs will open the regular season on the road in Grand Rapids to face division rival West Michigan for a two-game series before coming back to Four Winds Field for the home opener against the Whitecaps on April 8.
