Simeris To Lead IUSB Tennis Programs
SOUTH BEND – Nick and Jessica Simeri have been tabbed to lead the Indiana University South Bend tennis program that is set to begin competition in the fall of 2017.
Nick will oversee the men’s program while Jessica will be at the helm of the women’s program.
“We are very excited to launch collegiate tennis here at IU South Bend in 2017-18 and we warmly welcome Jessica and Nick as our tennis coaches. They have a love for the game, are embedded in the tennis community, and are the type of high character people that will represent our university with excellence,” stated Executive Director of Athletics and Activities, Steve Bruce.
“Nick and I are extremely excited about this new opportunity at IU South Bend and can’t wait to get these teams started and watch them grow,” stated the Simeri’s.
Jessica started playing tennis competitively when she was 10 years old. When she arrived at South Bend St. Joseph’s High School as a freshman, she was playing No. 1 singles for the Indians. Jessica helped lead the Indians to the State Championship during her junior season.
After high school, Jessica joined the Purdue University club tennis team where she later became the President. Jessica helped lead the team to Nationals all four years, and led the Boilermakers to a third place finish at Nationals during her junior year. In her final season, she earned both the Midwest and National Leader of the Year awards for her work with the club tennis program.
Upon graduation from Purdue, Jessica continued to teach part-time at the South Bend Racquet Club and joined the USTA Tennis On Campus Midwest Committee.
Nick was born and raised in South Bend and began his tennis career when he was seven years old, playing under long-time coach and friend, Eric Mahone. Nick was a four-year varsity player at John Adams High School; earning First-Team All NIC doubles his senior year.
“Being granted the opportunity to lead the tennis program at my alma mater is a dream come true,” said Nick.
Nick continued his tennis career at the South Bend Racquet Club as an Assistant Teaching Professional. During his time at SBRC, he coached the Elite Academy, which includes the top high school players in South Bend. Nick also leads adult drills, cardio tennis, and helped kick-start Buddy Up Tennis.
Nick and Jessica currently hold the South Bend Metro Mixed Doubles Title.
