John Henry Weiss
John Henry Weiss, 82, of Bremen, passed away at 6:29 am, Thursday, March 9, in his home surrounded by family. John was born on March 11, 1934, in Wyatt to Oren and Ruth (Hinderer) Weiss. On February 27, 1977 in North Liberty, he married the former Alice Kane. John proudly served his country while serving in the U.S. Army. He was honorably discharged in 1958. He worked for the foundry for many years before his retirement in 1990.
He attended Bremen Missionary Church and enjoyed camping, horse shoes, riding motorcycles and scrapping junk. He is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Alice; four children; Steve Weiss LaPaz, Pam Weiss, LaPaz, Gloria Weiss, Grovertown and Barb (Eric) Grubbs, LaPaz; four grandchildren, Stephanie, Ryan, Dustin, and Amber and four great grandchildren. He is also survived by three step children; Nancy (Hal) Joy, Osceola, Warren Zahn, Walkerton, and Christine (Pete) Richardson, Du Quoin, Ill.; five step grandchildren; Benjamin, Christopher, Adam, Ronald, and Thomas and eight step great grandchildren, as well, as a sister, Betty Huber, Mishawaka.
He is preceded in death by his parents, step granddaughter, Amonda, son in law, Todd Hovarter, two sisters, Geraldine and Marjorie and two brothers, Kenny and Richard.
Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to noon Monday, March 13, in Bremen Missionary Church, 2958 Elm Road, Bremen. Funeral services will follow at noon in the church. Burial will follow in Bremen Cemetery with full military honors. The family prefers memorials to be made to Asera Care Hospice, 700 E. Beardsley Ave, Suite 2B, Elkhart, IN 46514.
