Donald Mike Caverley, 68, Warsaw, died shortly before 9:30 p.m., Friday, March 3, 2017, in his home
Donald was born on Sept. 17, 1948 in Ypsilanti, Mich. He was the son of Harold and Dorothy (Henry) Caverley. He spent his formative years in Ypsilanti before moving to the Warsaw area in his early teens.
On Nov. 27, 1967, Donald was married to Marjorie Hatfield in Warsaw. Together they spent nearly fifty years of marriage. Marjorie survives in Warsaw.
Donald spent 29 years working as a loader operator and in maintenance for Elkhart County Gravel. He and his wife were members of Clunette United Methodist Church.
In his spare time, Donald enjoyed fishing, hunting and trying his luck at the casino boats. He enjoyed watching tractor pulls and, more recently, drag racing. He was also a fan of Detroit Lions football and of NASCAR drivers Dale Jarrett and Tony Stewart. Most of all, he enjoyed time spent with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He also had a special love for his dogs, Tiny and Cooper, and his squirrel friend, Blackie who would visit his window each day for hand-fed snacks.
In addition to his wife, Margie, he is survived by his children: Laurie (Jeff) Head of Warsaw; Michael (Sherry) Caverley of Warsaw; Bill (Laurel) Caverley of Warsaw; and Sue (Scott) Shelhart of Claypool; nine grandchildren: Abigail, Jackson, Ryan, Brooke, Doug, Andy, Lora, Devinn and Christian; fourteen great grandchildren: Jayden, Alek, Kaleigh, Madden, Connlee, Baylee, Isaiah, Ameliah, Josiah, Bradyn, Brystol, Briggs, Ryker and Khealer; four brothers: Pat Caverley of Florida; Jim (Joyce) Caverley of Mesa, Ariz.; Dean Caverley of Michigan; and Arthur Caverley of Florida; two sisters, Margaret (Gerald) Simcox of Grovertown; and Kathy Matthews of Arkansas.
Those who preceded Donald in passing include his sons, Donald and Duane Caverley; parents, Harold and Dorothy Caverley; sisters, Carol Jerrel and Jeannette Caverley; brother, Walter Caverley and infant twin siblings, Gerald and Geraldine Caverley.
The family will receive friends for a time of visitation from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, March 7 at Titus Funeral Home, 2000 East Sheridan Street, Warsaw. A funeral service celebrating Donald’s life will be held on Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the Funeral Home with calling one hour prior. Pastor Mike Beezley of Clunette, United Methodist Church will officiate.
