Triton Basketball Sectional: Trojans, Bobcats On Collision Course
BOURBON – The final many figured would happen at the Class 1-A Triton Boys Basketball Sectional can now anticipate the matchup. Triton and Oregon-Davis both won Friday night in semi-final games, setting up the championship showdown.
Grant Johnson was a monster for the Trojans in its 58-40 win over Culver. The big center had 21 points, five rebounds and a whopping nine blocks.
Dylan Hensley and Zac Pitney each had nine points and Beau Hepler added eight points and five boards in the win for the Trojans, which move to 18-5 on the season and back into the championship game for the third consecutive season.
Josh Krsek led Culver (12-11) with 11 points and six rebounds. The Cavs had won its last four games heading into Friday night’s semi-final, but had Cash Harris, Nate Carnegie and Kia Riale all foul out.
Triton took a 16-6 first quarter lead and held the Cavs to just five points in the third quarter in opening up an 18-point advantage for the final eight minutes that were played even.
In the second contest, Oregon-Davis set up the sectional championship rematch with a 63-55 win over Argos. The Dragons had held a five-point lead heading into the fourth quarter, but the Bobcats scored 27 points in the final frame.
Aaron Parker led O-D (19-6) with 19 points and 10 rebounds and the trio of Jonathon Clark, Lance Campbell and John Messer all finished with 12 points. O-D was 23-29 from the free throw line and shot 50 percent (17-34) from the floor.
Drew Bollenbacher ended with 19 points for Argos (15-9) while Vincent Stone had 17 points and Lukas Van Der Weele had 11 points.
Triton and O-D meet for the third straight season in the championship game, the two teams splitting the previous two meetings. Triton is the defending sectional champion. The game is slated to begin at 7 p.m., the winner advancing to the Class 1-A Triton Regional next weekend to take on either Fort Wayne Blackhawk or Lakewood Park Christian in the regional semis.
