Douglas W. Baker
Douglas W. Baker, 86, Winona Lake, and formerly of Hoffman Lake, passed away at 1:14 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2017, in his residence.
On Oct. 8, 1930, Douglas was born in Warsaw to Glen and Alice (Kegebein). He was united in marriage to Virginia Marsh on Sept. 10, 1950 in Clunette.
In 1948, Douglas graduated Atwood High School. He served honorably from 1955 to 1957 in the Army. In 1950 he started working at Dalton Foundry where he retired in 1982 and worked at the Warsaw Foundry from 1983, retiring in 1992. He worked as a maintenance supervisor for both firms.
Douglas was a member of the Moose Lodge since 1985, the North Webster American Legion Post 253, The Elks Lodge, Warsaw where he served as Exhalted Ruler in 1976.
Douglas is survived by Virginia, his wife; two daughters: Jill (and spouse Jerry) Gross, Mentone; Jan (and spouse Darin) Martin, Warsaw; a sister Phyllis Blauser of Milford; six grandchildren: Janell (and spouse Heath) Jones, Mentone; Jenna (and spouse Drew) Streicher, Philadelphia, Penn.; Leslie Baker, Warsaw; Kimberly Baker, Warsaw; Shanon (and spouse Ben) Lyon, Seattle; and Bryan Martin, Seattle; and five great granddaughters. He is preceded in death by his son, Jim Baker, Dec. 5, 2006.
Visitation hours will be held from 1-4 p.m. Sunday, March 5, with an Elks Memorial Service at 3:30 p.m. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, March 6 at McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapels, Warsaw with Pastor Mike Beezley officiating. Burial will be in Stony Point Cemetery, Atwood.
