Rochester Man Charged With Auto Theft, Resisting Law Enforcement
MILFORD — A Rochester man was arrested for auto theft and resisting law enforcement officers.
Andrew Matney, 7611 North CR 550E, Rochester, is being charged with count I auto theft, a level 6 felony, and count II resisting law enforcement, a case A misdemeanor.
According to the affidavit of probable cause, on Tuesday, Feb. 21, officers responded to a report of an auto theft. Officers spoke with the homeowner, who advised that his father had loaned him a 1998 Lincoln Town car to drive. The homeowner advised that Matney had been living at his residence and that when the homeowner returned to his residence the Lincoln and Matney were both missing.
The homeowner spoke with his wife, who informed him that Matney had been inside the residence and she thought he was in the garage.
The homeowner told officers that he thought Matney stole the Lincoln. The homeowner advised police that he spoke with his father, who did not know Matney, and he had not given Matney permission to take his Lincoln. The father wanted the vehicle reported stolen.
Milford officers located the Lincoln on Edgewater Drive. When officers approached the vehicle, Matney stepped out of the driver’s side of the vehicle.
Officers told Matney to turn around and place his hands behind his back. At that time, Matney took off running. Officers pursued Matney, catching him and placing him under arrest.
Matney was booked in the Kosciusko County Jail on a $5,250 surety and cash bond.
