NorthWood Basketball: Another 20 Win Season For Panthers
NORTH MANCHESTER – The NorthWood boys basketball team joined some pretty exclusive company Tuesday night.
The Panthers completed another 20-win season with a 71-27 victory over host Manchester in the regular-season finale.
NorthWood, ranked No. 2 in Class 3-A, improves to 20-2 on the season.
The Panthers become just the second boys basketball team in Elkhart County history to post four straight 20 win seasons. The only other team to record the mark was the Elkhart High School teams from 1950-54.
Coach Aaron Wolfe’s Panthers were 24-3 a year ago after going 23-3 two years ago and 21-3 the season before that. NorthWood has won three straight Class 3-A sectional titles during the remarkable run as well.
Vinny Miranda led the way to the win Tuesday night. The star senior guard poured in 23 points for the Panthers.
The game was tied at 15-15 after the opening period before NorthWood outscored the Squires 16-2 in the second quarter to take control with a 31-17 halftime lead.
Luke Zurcher tallied 13 points and Caleb Lung added 12 for the Panthers.
Junior Koehl Fluke led Manchester with eight points. Senior Levi Hicks scored six for the Squires, who lost their third straight to drop to 6-15.
NorthWood won the junior varsity game 59-43. Nick Bean had 13 points and Kaden Gongwer 12 to lead the way.
NorthWood begins sectional play next Tuesday versus Lakeland in a first-round game of the Class 3-A Wawasee Sectional at 7:30 p.m.
Manchester plays at Goshen Friday night to close out the regular season. The Squires then face Cass on Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the opener of the Class 2-A Oak Hill Sectional.
