WARSAW — A total of 77 participants raised more than $13,000 for Special Olympics Indiana at the 2017 Polar Plunge that took place Saturday, Feb. 18, at the pavilion at Center Lake Park, 119 E. Canal Street.
Top individual fundraiser was Beth Upton from Team DePuy. The top fundraising team was Team DePuy. The team with the most plungers was Bone City Rollers.
Buzz Lail, Northwest regional manager, Special Olympics Indiana, stated that the event would not be possible without the help of the Warsaw PD dive team, Lutheran EMS and Warsaw Parks & Recreation. Lail states that special thanks are in order for Tom Wogoman, Rick Ditto, Megan Fisher, Leah Everest and Megan Dinse from the Bone City Rollers and Brian Lardino for promotional assistance.
Food and beverages were provided for participants after the plunge, which took place at 12:30 p.m. Pizza Hut Fort Wayne Inc. provided lunch from their Detroit Street location.
DePuy-Synthes is a state sponsor of Special Olympics Polar Plunge events. Local sponsors for the Warsaw Polar Plunge event are Bowen Center, Paragon Medical and Metzger Trucking.
Other teams included Instrumental Machine & Development, Bowen Center, Warsaw High School Difference Makers, Wawasee High School, Warsaw PD Dare Team, Texmo, Special Olympics Kosciusko County, Special Olympics Fulton County, KGP Logistics, BACA Hart and Elwood Staffing.
Participants enjoyed beautiful weather at this year’s event, with temperatures reaching the mid 60’s.
