Grace Track: Lancers Show Well In League Invite
MARION – Three NAIA qualifiers and three school records highlighted Grace’s track and field performance at the Crossroads League Invitational.
Nearly every league team was in attendance on Friday and Saturday with Bethel being the only exception. Grace’s men’s team finished fourth while the women were fifth overall.
“The qualifying marks and records are great accomplishments, but we got contributions from a wide range of athletes,” said Grace head coach Jeff Raymond. “At least 25 different people scored a point for us and there were numerous personal bests. We want to see progress every week, and we certainly showed that this weekend.”
Raven Arellano had a busy weekend with two school records. She met the NAIA qualifying mark in the 5,000-meter run in a time of 18:25.30, and she went on to win the 3,000 in a time of 10:45.85.
Macallister Seitz hit the NAIA standard in the weight throw in a winning toss of 55-feet, which also set a school record. He went on to place third in the shot put as well.
The men’s distance medley relay was the third event of the weekend to qualify for NAIAs. Nathan Lane, Joel Zook, Tyler Houvener, Hunter Reed finished the run in 10:25.34. Lane also placed third in the mile and was eighth in the 3,000.
Hannah Treadway had two strong showings. She won the weight throw at 49-3.5 and also was third in the shot put with an indoor PR of 37-7.
Sam Hall finished as the runner-up in both the 600 and 800, hitting PRs in both races, and was also third on the 4×400 relay with Ross Armey, Nolan Miller and Zook.
Grace will end the indoor season at the 2017 NAIA Indoor National Championships in Johnson City, Tenn., beginning March 2.
