Richard L. Hershberger, Syracuse, 68, died Tuesday, Feb. 14, 2017, unexpectedly of natural causes at Goshen Hospital.
He was born Feb. 29, 1948 to Victor and Frieda (Robison) Hershberger in Nappanee. Richard was a lifetime area resident. He worked at Holiday Rambler for 24 years, and 10 years at Colbin Tools. Richard raced at New Paris Speedway and Plymouth Speedway where he drove car #96. He enjoyed camping, cookouts, making homemade ice cream and working with wood. He was a big fan of Nascar, especially Dale Earnhardt, Sr.
Richard is survived by his children, Rich (Rachel) Hershberger, Elkhart, Corey (Debby) Hershberger, Salisbury, PA, Amy Rizor, Elkhart, Todd Hershberger, Warsaw, Melissa Hershberger, South Bend, Justin Hershberger, Bremen, Sean Hershberger, Warsaw; 17 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; and brothers, Jim (Nancy) Hershberger, Warsaw, and Michael Hershberger, Mesa, AZ. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Kari Lynn Hershberger; brother, Ronald Hershberger; and a sister, Louise Ebersole.
Family and friends may call from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., Saturday, February 18, 2017 at Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder Funeral Home, Nappanee. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, February 19th at the funeral home. Pastor Mike Kelly, of Word of Truth Ministries, will officiate. Burial will be in Union Center Cemetery.
