Gwendolyn Young, 91, Albion, and formerly a resident of Syracuse, died Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2017. at North Ridge Village Nursing Home.
She was born on March 1, 1925, in Fort Wayne to the late Leslie and Virginia (Nole) Meens. She married Ralph Young in July of 1950 in Auburn. He preceded her in death in 1994.
Gwen loved music and was a member of the Mellow Aires singing group which brought her much joy. Through her life, she was a devoted wife and mother and grandmother.
Surviving are daughters: Gerrie (Rick) Kellermieier, Barbara (Larry) Recker, Susan (Steve) Myers, Pamela Slattery, Yvette (Ed) Merrick, Jacque (John) Claphan and Doris (Gary) Arnold; sons: Allan Young and Keith Young; and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. Also surviving is a daughter-in-law, Joyce (Young) Ternet.
In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by her first husband, Harold Hite; son and daughter-in-law Ronald and Babs Young; and sons Steven Young and Ralph Young Jr.
Funeral services are 11 a.m. Monday, Feb 20, 2017, at Harper Funeral Homes, Albion Chapel, 771 Trail Ridge Road, Albion, with visitation one hour prior. Visitation will also be from 2-7 p.m. Sunday, February 19, 2017, at the funeral home. Burial will be in Christian Chapel Cemetery, Merriam.
Memorials are to Alzheimer’s Association or Heartland Hospice.
