The Warsaw Community Public Library Celebrates 100th Birthday
WARSAW — One hundred years ago, the Warsaw Community Public Library received its first load of books from a local school in January, 1917, and opened its doors to the community in April, 1917. During the WCPL board of trustees meeting, library director Ann Zydek informed the board of their plans to celebrate this milestone.
“We’re very excited to have a celebration of the last hundred years,” said Zydek.
In April, the library will celebrate the birthday by having a party with cake for library patrons. The library has also begun creating “throwback Thursday” Facebook posts featuring pictures taken at the library over the years.
In addition to celebrating this milestone, Zydek indicated library staff will be looking to how they can better serve the community in the future.
Zyek went on to explain that the elevator in the library has been breaking down consistently. On Jan. 31, it stopped working and was repaired. Later that day, it broke down again and is currently not operational. In the past, the director has looked into pricing to repair the elevator. Prior estimates were around $80,000 to $100,000. Zyek stated she would be looking for new estimates to potentially replace the elevator.
