Good Night, Teddy

WARSAW — Books about bedtime are a staple in many a child’s book collection. Snuggling with a book at the end of the day is a great way to settle little wigglers and tuck them in for a voyage to dreamland. It’s often a pleasant activity for the adult reader, as well.
It has been 70 years since the appearance of the iconic book, “Goodnight Moon,” by Margaret Wise Brown. Brown is usually imagined as grandmotherly, like the character in her book. In reality, she never had children and only lived to the age of 42. She published many other books, including “The Runaway Bunny” and “My World.”
The Warsaw Community Public Library carries many bedtime story treasuries, as well as stories about children and animals going to sleep. “How Do Dinosaurs Say Good Night,” by Jane Yolen, and “Llama Llama Red Pajama,” by Anna Dewdney, are examples of modern classics. Nearly any story can become bedtime fare, though, and a happy memory for years to come.
This year the WCPL Children’s Services is reprising a popular program from 2016: the stuffed animal sleepover. This special slumber party for stuffed pals will take place March 3 and 4, at the end of our winter reading program. Children of all ages are invited to participate by dropping off a stuffed animal pal at the children’s desk from 4-6 p.m. Friday, March 3. The stuffed animals will enjoy a night in the library and document their adventures. Saturday morning, the children may pick up their stuffed pal between 10 a.m. and noon, enjoy a light breakfast, and admire the sleepover photos. Watch our Facebook page, “WCPL’s Kids Corner,” visit here, or call (574) 267-6011 for details about this and other upcoming programs.
