Triton Basketball: Trojans Rally Past LaVille
LAKEVILLE – A fine finish earned the Triton boys basketball team a conference championship Friday night.
The Trojans outscored host LaVille 16-8 in the final frame to post a 41-37 win in Hoosier North Athletic Conference action.
Triton, with its fourth straight win, improves to 12-5 overall. The Trojans move to 7-0 in league play and sit atop the league standings with one game left to play. Winamac is 6-1 in league action. Triton plays at Knox Feb. 24 in its final HNAC game, while Winamac hosts Pioneer next Friday night to conclude league play.
The Trojans, who have won eight of their last nine games, led 8-6 after the opening period. The Lancers led 13-11 at halftime and 29-25 after the third period before Triton rallied in the fourth quarter to nab the win.
Zac Pitney scored 15 points and Grant Johnson added 14 to lead the offense for the Trojans. Johnson also had 10 rebounds and Pitney finished with six.
Triton, which beat Winamac 47-45 on dec. 16, hit 10-11 free throws in the win. LaVille was just 3-6 from the line in the contest.
Adam Steinke and Luke Beehler each scored eight points to pace LaVille. The Lancers drop to 13-6 overall and go to 4-3 in league play.
LaVille won the junior varsity game 56-48. Tye Orsund and Delano Shumpert each scored 11 points to lead the way for the Trojans.
Triton hosts Clinton Christian tonight.
