Marandet To Play At Grace, Goshen
WARSAW – Paul Marandet enjoyed quite the fan following during his stellar senior season as a guard on the Warsaw boys basketball team a year ago.
Those same fans will get a chance to come out and support Marandet once again twice in the coming week.
Marandet, now a freshman at Spring Arbor University, will play a pair of conference games close to home.
Spring Arbor will play at Grace College this Saturday at approximately 3 p.m. in a Crossroads League matchup. The action begins with the women’s game at 1 p.m. with the men’s contest to follow.
Spring Arbor is 16-11 overall and 8-7 in league play after a 76-74 loss to No. 3 Bethel College at home Tuesday night. The Pilots improved to 24-3 overall and 14-1 in conference action with their 13th straight win. Grace sits at 13-14 overall and 5-10 in league play after a 70-68 conference win at Marian Tuesday night. Spring Arbor defeated the Lancers 93-86 in overtime in their first meeting on Jan. 14 in Michigan.
Marandet, the 6-0 starting point guard for the Cougars, is averaging 12.4 points-per-game and leading his team in assists at just over four per contest. He had nine points, six rebounds and five assists Tuesday night in the loss to Bethel.
Spring Arbor will also play at Goshen College next Tuesday evening. The Cougars will face the host Maple Leafs at 7 p.m. in another Crossroads League game. Goshen sits at 10-17 overall and 3-11 in conference play after a 75-70 league loss at Mount Vernon Nazarene Tuesday night. Spring Arbor topped Goshen 80-59 on Jan. 3.
Marandet helped lead the Tigers to a 25-2 mark during the 2015-16 season, which included conference, sectional and regional championships. He was the 2015 IFN Player of the Year and a first-team pick to the IFN All-Area team in 2016. Marandet averaged 13 points-per-game during his senior season for coach Doug Ogle’s Tigers and led his team in assists and free throw shooting.
Spring Arbor will wrap up regular-season and conference play by hosting Indiana Wesleyan on Feb. 18. The Crossroads League Tournament then begins Feb. 22 with first-round games. The semifinals are slated for Feb. 25 with the championship game on Feb. 28.
