Fred J. Matheny — UPDATED
Fred J. Matheny, 85, Warsaw passed away at 11:45 a.m. Feb. 6, 2017 in Mason’s Health and Rehab.
He was born in Bourbon Nov. 30, 1931 to Ralph and Esther (Mitchell) Matheny.
On June 22, 1951 in Warsaw he was united in marriage to his first wife Margaret Fuller who preceded him in death on May 4, 2016. On June 9, 1972 he married his second wife Loretta “Skip” Bashore in Rochester who preceded him in death on Jan. 5, 1998.
After living in Rochester, Fred moved to Warsaw. He formerly worked as an auto mechanic and driver for Fort Wayne Auto Auction and Hammel Chrysler/Plymouth in Rochester. He was active with the Fulton County Historical Society, a muzzle loader shooter and an avid deer hunter.
He is survived by his daughters: Jean A. “Jeanie” (and spouse Terry) Craig and Judy Zorn (and companion Rocky Bays), all of Warsaw; his brothers, Don Metheny of Rochester; and Russell Matheny of Bloomington, Calif. He is further survived by his grandchildren: Steve (and spouse Melinda) Zorn, Krista Brown, Melissa Craig and Brian (and spouse Kimberly) Craig, all of Warsaw; along with three great grandchildren, Peyton Craig, Bryson Bailey and Sydney Brown, all of Warsaw.
He was preceded by his wives and sister Freda Warren.
A funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 9, in McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel with Chaplain Denny Bollenbacher officiating. Burial will follow at Oaklawn Cemetery in North Manchester. A visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 8 at McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel in Warsaw.
