City Finishes Right Of Way Acquisition For 300N Project
WARSAW — During the Warsaw Redevelopment meeting on Monday, Feb. 6, Warsaw City Planner Jeremy Skinner presented the final parcel of land needed to complete the right of way acquisition process for the CR 300N project.
The property is currently owned by Steven and Margaret Wilson. The city needs to purchase 40 feet of land from the owners to begin working on the project. Since the road is a county road, the 40 feet includes land up until the centerline of the road.
“This is the last piece of parcel we need to acquire,” explained Skinner.
The board approved a contract to purchase the land for $5,000. The biggest reason to purchase the land is so that utilities can be moved further away from the road and proposed project.
Once completed, the project will include a bike trail along Silveus Crossing and CR 300N to Sheldon Street. The project also consists of adding a side path, lighting, a curb and stormwater to the area.
Board President Tim Meyer brought up a few legislative bills that could impact the board if they are approved. Meyer talked about House Bills 1082 and 1131 along with Senate Bill 512. Each of these bills want to give schools more power when it comes to the redevelopment boards.
The House Bills propose to take away one of the mayor’s appointed board members and replace the spot with a voting school board member.
“Both of them are bad legislative,” commented Skinner. “Hopefully they get kicked out.”
All the bills are still currently in the beginning stages and aren’t officially law yet.
