Lakeland Invitational: Warriors, Blazers Setting Up Well
LAGRANGE – In the midseason gymnastics report card meet, the participants of the upcoming sectional took to the home equipment Saturday at the Lakeland Gymnastics Invitational. Along with a few other area teams, Wawasee and Elkhart Central got a good look at one another, the Blazers winning the meet with a 109.55, with the Warriors coming in third at 103.2
Central, the defending sectional champion, made its statement in a field that also included potential regional foe Fort Wayne Carroll, the Chargers taking second at 106.6. Elkhart posted the top combined event score in three of the four disciplines, only Carroll’s bars score better than Central.
Central’s Analena Vanderz was the top vaulter with a 9.25, and teammates Kiara Stabler was on top of the beam at 9.35 and Abi Downs the floor at 9.7. Skiler Reveal of Elkhart was second on the floor at 9.6, showing the depth the Blazers possess.
Wawasee’s Reagan Atwood hovered near the top of all the scorelines, taking second on beam at 9.1, fourth on floor at 9.45, fifth on vault at 9.0 and tied for ninth with teammate Jada Parzygnot on bars at 8.55. Parzygnot cracked the top 10 on vault with her 8.55.
Downs and Vanderz went one-two in the all-around scoring with a 36.5 and 36.1, Atwood tying Vanderz for second. Aundreya Wegener had Wawasee’s next all-around figure of 33.8, taking 12th overall.
Remi Beckham led Warsaw in three of its four showings, scoring 9.15 on floor, 8.4 on vault and 8.3 on bars. Daylen Turner had the top Tiger score on beam at 8.15. Beckham’s all-around score of 33.45 was 14th best in the meet, Turner three spots down at 33.3.
