LCA Basketball: Bruins Clip Cougars In Sectional
FORT WAYNE – The Lakeland Christian Academy girls basketball team did not go down without a fight Tuesday night.
The Cougars rally came up just short in dropping a 35-30 final to Bethan Christian in a first-round game of the Class 1-A Fort Wayne Blackhawk Sectional.
The Bruins outscored LCA 12-7 in the fourth quarter to earn the postseason win.
Bethany Christian, now 12-9, advances to play Lakewood Park (7-13) on Friday at 6 p.m. in a sectional semifinal contest.
LCA fell behind 10-2 after the opening frame and 15-12 at halftime before rallying to tie the game at 23-23 at the end of the third quarter.
Junior Hope Fancil led the Cougars with 10 points to go with four blocked shots.
Senior Melissa Goss had eight points and six rebounds for the Cougars. Junior Brady Gross had eight points and three rebounds. Junior Jess Slone had two points and 12 rebounds and sophomore Anna Reimink had two points to go with four assists and three steals.
Bethany had defeated LCA 47-31 back on Dec. 6 at Bethany.
Tarynn Clark, Tessa Clark and Anya Kauffman each scored eight points to pace the winning Bruins. Kauffman also had 10 rebounds.
LCA, coached by Allison Kauffman, loses one senior in Goss.
In the other game Tuesday night, Hamilton defeated Elkhart Christian Academy 50-33. Hamilton, now 9-14, will face host Fort Wayne Blackhawk Christian (10-12) in the other semifinal game on Friday night.
