Man Allegedly Swallows Meth During Traffic Stop
WARSAW — A man was transported to Kosciusko Community Hospital after he swallowed methamphetamine during a traffic stop.
Christopher Shayne Smith, 38, 3102 W. Center St., Tippecanoe, is being charged with possession of meth, a level 6 felony and possession of paraphernalia, a class C misdemeanor.
On Jan. 22 an officer with the Warsaw Police Department observed a vehicle fail to dim the bright lights. The officer also noticed there was no working license plate light and conducted a traffic stop. Smith was identified as the driver of the vehicle.
The officer discovered that Smith had an active warrant through Whitley County. The officer then arrested Smith and obtained consent to search the vehicle.
According to the affidavit of probable cause, one of the passengers advised that Smith and the other passenger went inside a residence in Burket. The passenger believed that they had purchased drugs. The passenger said that when the vehicle was stopped by the officers, Smith swallowed 1/4 gram of methamphetamine. The other passenger told officers the same series of events.
Officers discovered a metal container with methamphetamine residue inside a cup holder and a glass smoking device under the front passenger seat.
Smith was transported to kosciusko Community Hospital to obtain a blood/urine sample. Smith admitted to having smoked methamphetamine earlier in the day and claimed ownership of the glass smoking device.
