Triton Basketball: Big Win Keeps Title Shot Alive
BOURBON – Triton kept its title chances alive Thursday night with a 46-18 mauling of Pioneer in girls basketball. The win keeps the Lady Trojans in the hunt for a share of the Hoosier North Athletic Conference title.
Triton moves to 6-1 in the HNAC with the win, one back of North Judson’s 7-0 mark with the huge showdown Friday night between the Trojans and Blue Jays at the Trench. The conference, in its second year of existence, saw Triton and North Judson battle it out a season ago in the same scenario, except Triton took an undefeated mark into North Judson and came away with the win.
Triton made the price of admission worth it with a pounding of Pioneer, which shot an abysmal 19 percent (6-31) from the floor. Triton was able to shoot its way to a 30-7 halftime lead.
Hannah Wanemacher connected on four three-pointers and was 5-5 from the free throw line en route to a 25-point evening. Wanemacher also had five rebounds and two assists. Whytnie Miller added 10 points, four rebounds and three steals in the win.
Madelyn Parsley led Pioneer (5-16, 1-7 HNAC) with eight points and three rebounds.
Triton improves to 8-13 overall, winners of five of its last six games. The lone loss in that stretch was to Class 1-A No. 4 Argos at the Bi-County Tournament. Argos is Triton’s opening opponent at the Culver Sectional next Wednesday.
