Girls Basketball
The Wawasee girls basketball team clinched a winning conference season in its season finale with Concord. The ladies topped the Minutemen 41-31 for their first winning season in the Northern Lakes Conference since the 2010-11 campaign. The win also put Wawasee at 10-12 to finish out the regular season, the team’s first double-digit win total since 2012-13.
Aubrey Schmletz and Hannah-Marie Lamle each scored 11 points to lead the Warriors while Aubrey Kuhn added nine. Chandyn Redmond led Concord with 11 points of her own.
Wawasee will play NorthWood in the first round of the West Noble sectional Tuesday night. Concord (4-18, 0-7) will play Northridge in the Goshen sectional Wednesday evening.
Wawasee’s JV was a 60-33 winner over Concord. Morgan Adkins led the way for the Green and Gold with 12 points. Caitlin Wortinger added 10 for the Warriors. Wawasee’s JV wraps up its season with 16-6 mark and was 4-3 in NLC play.
Gymnastics
The Wawasee gymnastics team ran its record to 4-1 Thursday night with a 102.525-93.525 win over visiting Lakeland.
The Warriors took the top three spots in the all-around with Reagan Atwood leading the way with a score of 35.68. Jada Parzygnot was second at 33.93 and Drey Wegener took third with a 32.93. Lakeland’s Darrien Freeman took fourth with a 32.73
Atwood swept the events, taking first in all four. She won on vault (8.70), bars (8.53), beam (8.85) and floor (9.60).
“We had a pretty good night,” said Wawasee coach Nika Prather. “I was very happy to see senior Autumn Yoder have such a good night. She works so hard in practice and its nice to see it pay off.”
Yoder took sixth on both beam (7.55) and floor (8.26) which were each personal bests for the senior.
Wawasee travels to East Noble Monday night.
Freshman Basketball
The boys and girls freshman basketball teams for Wawasee were both in action Thursday evening against Concord at home. The girls won 38-23 while the boys fell 39-28.
The ladies were led offensively by Rhian Galloway’s 12 points. Madison Mottern added another 11 for Wawasee. The win gives Wawasee a 7-3 overall record to finish its season and a 5-2 mark against NLC foes.
The boys team was led by Ethan Hardy’s 12-point outing. Wawasee is now 9-7 on the year and will host NorthWood Monday at 6:30 p.m.
