Davies Arrested For Meijer Theft
WARSAW — A local man has been arrested after being identified from a theft from a local Meijer.
Warren J. Davies, 34, 9928 N. Happiness Drive, Syracuse, is being charged with count I theft, a class A misdemeanor, with a sentence enhancement, a level 6 felony.
According to the affidavit of probable cause, an officer with the Warsaw Police Department responded to a theft at Meijer on Dec. 5, 2016. The officer was advised by loss prevention that a cashier had stated they witnessed a subject leaving the store without paying.
The officer checked the surveillance footage and observed a male subject enter Meijer and select two bottles of Mountain Dew Code Red, a gallon of milk, a fire extinguisher and a home theater system. The items totaled a value of $320.37. The male subject could then be seen exiting the store without paying.
The affidavit states that Meijer loss prevention checked with other Meijer stores and sent photographs of the subject stealing the items. They identified the subject as Davies, with the other stores providing a license plate number from the vehicle Davies had used in the theft at their stores. It matched that of the license plate number of the vehicle used.
The officer obtained a driver’s license photo from the Bureau of Motor Vehicles and compared it to the photograph obtained from surveillance. It appeared to be the same person.
The investigating officer found that Davies was convicted of theft on Jan. 20, 2015, in Whitley County Superior Court.
Davies was booked into Kosciusko County Jail on Jan. 23 with $600 cash and $10,500 surety and cash bonds.
