Dorothy M. Kitson, 97, Syracuse, passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2017 at Goshen Hospital.
Dorothy was born July 22, 1919 in Akron, to the late William and Berdella (Bammerlin) Merley. She graduated from Akron High School in 1937, and on Dec. 1, 1945 she married Dallas Kitson in Syracuse. Dallas preceded her in death, passing away in 1970.
Surviving is her daughter, Susan Kitson of Union, Mich. Also surviving are four grandchildren: Jeff Snider and Ben Snider, both of Goshen; Meredith (Matt) Westerback of Whitehall, Mich.; and Molly (Darrin Kowitz) Jobin of Budapest, Hungary. Dorothy is also survived by her great grandchildren Analucia, Kitson, and Mihren. Her daughter, Lucy Harwood and her sister Mary Derring preceded her in death.
There will be a celebration of her life at a later time. Elkhart Cremation Services is assisting with the arrangements.
Dorothy retired at the age of 65 from Syracuse Rubber Company. She enjoyed reading and knitting, travelling and bowling, and playing cards. Dorothy also enjoyed having a “short beer” with her grandsons.
She was a longtime member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, and attended Calvary United Methodist Church.
