Thacker To Guide Warsaw Girls’ Track Program
WARSAW – A familiar face is set to guide the fortunes of the outstanding Warsaw girls track program.
Matt Thacker, coach of the highly-successful Warsaw boys track team, was approved by the school board Monday night to also oversee the girls program.
Thacker takes over the reigns from Scott Erba, who resigned from the girls track position back in October. Erba resigned in order to pursue competing as a triathlete. Erba had resigned last April from his position as coach of the Warsaw girls cross country team in order to focus more time on training and competing in triathlons.
Thacker has guided the WCHS boys program the past eight seasons. The Tigers have won he last six Northern Lakes Conference championships. He has also led the boys team to six straight sectional titles and four regional crowns in the last six years. The boys program has also won 41 straight conference meets, going undefeated in league action each of the past five seasons.
The WCHS girls program went 111-20 under Erba and has won 53 straight NLC meets. The girls have won the last 11 NLC titles, 10 straight sectional championships and five regional titles in a row.
The Warsaw girls track team opens its season with a State Qualifier Meet at Indiana Wesleyan University on March 3. The outdoor opener is scheduled for March 22 at Penn with the host Kingsmen and South Bend Washington.
The boys team is slated to take part in a State Qualifier on March 4 at IWU. The Tigers are scheduled to open their outdoor season by hosting East Noble and Fort Wayne Snider on March 23.
