Sherman Coy Jr.
Sherman Coy Jr., Warsaw, 96, died at 9 a.m. Jan. 13, 2017, in his Warsaw home.
He was born Jan. 4, 1921 to Sherman Coy Sr. and Hazel L. (Goble) Coy. He was a 1939 graduate of Goshen High School. He married Katheryn Yates July 9, 1972 in Sullivan. They were married for 44 years.
He was inducted into the United States Army in 1944, serving overseas in May of 1945; he was involved in the WWII South Pacific Theatre. He joined five star General Douglas MacArthur in June 1945, working with 18 members under him as guards for General MacArthur through Nov. 15, 1947. Sherman was honorably discharged from Great Lakes Naval Training Center, Dec. 3, 1947.
He was a lifetime resident of Kosciusko County and worked in the the tool and die at GTI for nearly 25 years.
He was a lifetime member of the VFW 1126, American Legion Menzie Reece Post 258 in Pierceton for 63 years and enjoyed anything outdoorsy, including gardening, camping and fishing. He also loved his family.
He is survived by his wife, Katheryn; his two daughters: Sandra England, Warsaw; and Mildred Burchett, Peru; his son, Carl Coy Sr., Winona Lake; nine grandchildren and several great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his son, Richard Coy; his brothers, Carl Coy and Eugene Coy; his sister, Margeurite Kitson; and his niece, Phyllis Kitson.
A time of visitation will be held from 11 a.m.-1 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 18, at Titus Funeral Home in Warsaw, with the funeral service following directly after. Pastor Ken Locke, Salvation Army, will officiate. Burial will occur at Syracuse Cemetery. Military graveside honors will be conducted by members of the United States Army and by members of American Legion Post 258.
