Wawasee Sports Wrap: Jan. 14
GIRLS BASKETBALL
The Wawasee girls basketball team hosted Memorial for a Northern Lakes Conference matinee Saturday at the Hardwood Teepee. The visiting Chargers outlasted the Warriors 52-45 to keep their conference title hopes alive.
Kambria Dale led all scorers with 15 points for the Chargers. Sierra Peete and Cydney Lapczynski each scored 11 for the visiting squad. Wawasee was led by an 11-point outing from Aubrey Schmeltz while Kabrea Rostochak added 10 points of her own for the Warriors.
Wawasee (7-10, 2-2) hosts 2-A No. 1 Whitko Tuesday evening.
Wawasee won the JV contest 35-32 to move to 13-4 on the season.
FRESHMAN BOYS BASKETBALL
The Wawasee boys freshman basketball team topped Jimtown 27-18 Saturday morning. Austin Baker led Wawasee with eight points while Ethan Hardy added six for the Warriors.
Wawasee now stands at 8-5 on the season and plays at Plymouth Thursday night.
WRESTLING
The Wawasee grapplers competed at the Adams Central Invitational Saturday morning. No official results were reported by the time of publication but Wawasee fielded four champions.
Braxton Alexander, Germia Brooks, Jeremiah Dilley and Elisha Tipping all found themselves with gold medals at the end of the day as class champions. The Warriors had eight wrestlers in championship matches on the day. Alex Castro, Xavier Ortiz, Raymon Torres and Garrett Stuckman all finished as runner-up in their respective brackets.
Wawasee wrestles next Saturday at the Northern Lakes Conference Championships at Northridge.
