Winter Reading Bingo For Children
By Katie Warrener, Children’s Services Librarian
We have rung in the New Year, and school is back in session…that is, when the weather cooperates. Are you looking for fun family activities this January and February to prevent cabin fever? Join the Warsaw Community Public Library for a game of Bingo, our new Winter Reading program for children.
In recent years WCPL has offered a reading program for teens and adults in the midwinter months. This year Winter Reading is for all ages, as we debut a program for children from birth up to age 12. We offer a Bingo card for elementary school children and another tailored for infants, toddlers, preschoolers and the grown-ups in their life.
Because the weather is moody and you are busy with work and school, children’s winter reading is more relaxed than summer reading. Simply encourage the children in your family to enjoy reading, writing, singing, playing games, listening to stories and to mark the Bingo card accordingly. Children may enjoy the activities alone or with a grown-up, sibling, friend, pet…even a stuffed animal. We suggest ideas to try, or you can tailor the challenge to your family. Books and games don’t have to come from our library, but we are always happy to help you come up with ideas. Just ask at the children’s desk.
Once children complete at least five unique activities and get a Bingo, they can visit us to pick out a free book, get coupons for treats and more fun, and enter a prize drawing. At the end of Winter Reading, we will invite children to bring a plush pal to the library for a very special Stuffed Animal Sleepover March 3-4.
To participate in children’s winter reading, visit the children’s desk to pick up a Bingo card or download one online at warsawlibrary.org. For details about this and other WCPL programs, visit the website or call (574) 267-6011.
