NorthWood Wrestling: Panthers Second At Wild Bill
FORT WAYNE – NorthWood’s wrestling got a final tune-up before the postseason begins, taking on work Saturday at the Fort Wayne Concordia “Wild Bill Invitational”.
The Panthers finished second overall, scoring 180 points in edging out Huntington North’s 179 points. Fort Wayne Carroll stood tall as team champions with 290 points in the eight-team field.
NorthWood had two individuals take weight class championships, Garrett Griffin at 152 pounds in a 7-0 decision over Tristan Larch of Carroll, and Jake Lone at 160 pounds in a 9-5 decision over Homestead’s Scott Lentz. Lone was named the Most Valuable Wrestler of the tournament, as voted on by the coaches of the eight programs.
Three Panthers finished runner-up in their respective weight classes. Hunter Warren at 126 lost to Huntington North’s Jacob Hall in a 4-2 decision. Brock Lechlitner at 138 pounds lost to Carroll’s Ethan Hicks in a 13-0 major decision. Michael Leonard at 195 points lost to Maconaquah’s Aaron Sedwick in a 4-0 decision.
Jacob Chupp (145) and Andrew Miller (220) were third place finishers among the 12 Panthers that placed in their brackets.
NorthWood will now head toward the second season, beginning next Saturday at Northridge for the Northern Lakes Conference championships.
