Edgewood Cagers Claim Tourney Titles
WARSAW – It was a championship performance by the Edgewood Middle School boys basketball teams Saturday.
The Edgewood 7th and 8th grade teams both went undefeated to win titles in the Tiger Classic.
The 7th grade team defeated Triton 51-39 in action at Lakeview Middle School. Cade Graham led the way for Edgewood with 17 points. Jackson Dawson scored 12 points, while Sami Smith had nine and Jackson Elliott six for the Tigers.
Dawson scored 13 points as Edgewood then defeated Westview 51-28. Smith had 11 points and Elliott eight in the win. A total of 11 different players scored on the day for Edgewood and the team was 11-12 from the free throw line.
The Edgewood 8th grade team opened play with a 55-44 win over Triton. Mason Martz led the winners with 13 points. Bishop Walters scored 12 points and Luke Adamiec eight.
Edgewood rallied in their second game to edge Westview 39-36. Brock Poe hit a 3-pointer late in the game to give Edgewood, which overcame a double-digit deficit, the lead and Martz sealed the win with two free throws in the final seconds. Martz led the team with 17 points. Poe and Adamiec, who had a key steal and basket late in the game, each had eight points.
Edgewood will host Wawasee Tuesday with the 7th grade game at 5 p.m. and the 8th grade contest to follow.
