Valley Basketball: Vikings Walk Away With Big Win
WABASH – Tippecanoe Valley needed a big win and got it Thursday night. A tough road matchup in the Three Rivers Conference had Valley pull away in the second half of a 51-39 girls basketball victory at Northfield.
In a matchup of undefeated teams in the TRC, Valley used a 16-2 run to end the third quarter to finally shake the Norse, which trailed by just one, 25-24, at the half.
Meredith Brouyette led Valley with 12 points and Anne Secrest finished with 11 points. The Vikings have won 23 straight TRC games going back to 2014, and now sit at 4-0 in the TRC. Addy Miller hit three treys in the first half to account for her nine points and Emily Peterson scored six points and added tremendous defensive support to the winning cause.
Ariel Dale and Ally Keaffaber paced the Norse with 12 and 11 points, respectively, in the loss. Northfield entered the night 5-0 in the TRC but hadn’t faced any of the top clubs in the conference with matchups with Whitko (3-0) and Rochester (4-1) still to come.
“I thought we did a pretty good job handling tonight,” stated Tippecanoe Valley head coach Chris Kindig in his postgame with WRSW. “Just happy to get out of here with a win. Still undefeated in the conference and that was the goal coming into here tonight was to take care of that.
“If we wanted a chance to win the conference, we had to get this win tonight.”
Valley moves to 14-3 overall and will take aim at a reeling NorthWood team on Tuesday in Akron. The Panthers, which started the season 11-2, went 1-3 at the Northridge Tournament over the holiday break and lost star sophomore Riley Hershberger for the season to a torn ACL this past week.
