Betty A. Simon
Betty A. Simon, 84, Larwill, died at 4:50 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2017 at Miller’s Merry Manor where she had been a resident since June 2016.
She was born Nov. 11, 1932 in Noble County, a daughter of Carroll Franklin and Goldie Arlene (Wood) Goldwood. Her formative years were spent in Noble County and Columbia City. She completed her education at Columbia City High School.
On July 15, 1950 she was united in marriage to Joseph Charles Simon. They made their first home in Columbia City. In 1966 they moved to their home in Larwill after purchasing the Blain Apple Orchard, operating Simon’s Apple Orchard for 37 years, retiring in 2003. Mr. Simon died Nov. 4, 2006.
Surviving relatives include her son-in-law, Dennis Gaff of Larwill; two grandsons: Aaron (Hidi) Gaff of Fort Wayne; and Tim (Brandy) Gaff of Pierceton; 12 great grandchildren; three brothers: Max Goldwood I of Troy Cedar Lake; Barry Goldwood of Shriner Lake; and Randy Goldwood of Springfield, Mo.; and a sister, Penny Polley of Carmel.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Sheryl Gaff; two brothers, Carl Goldwood and Donnie Goldwood; and a sister, Mary K. Hartman.
The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 7, at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City. The burial will be in Greenhill Cemetery. The visitation will be held at 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
