MILFORD — The following events will take place at the Milford Public Library:
ADULT READING PROGRAM BEGINS
“Build a Better World” this January with our winter adult reading program. Register starting Jan. 3. For each audiobook listened to or book read, participants can enter their name into a weekly drawing for a prize. Even materials read aloud to children count.Individuals are invited to look for ways to improve our community and read books about people who have made a difference, innovative ways to improve people’s lives, and whatever inspires you to actively build a better world. We hope our prizes and program inspire you to build a better world in 2017.
JANUARY STACKABLE SNOWMAN ADULT CRAFT
Create a perfect wintertime decoration at the library this January. Join us from 6:30-7:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 9, to create a 11” tall, 4” wide stackable snowman. All supplies are provided for a small fee. Space is limited to eight participants, so sign up at the adult circulation desk by 6 p.m. Friday, Jan. 6 reserve a space.

Get your knitting and crochet needles and join the knitting club at the library at 1:30 p.m. Jan. 6 and 20. Learn new skills from other members and have a good conversation while stitching a new creation. Beginners are always welcome.

Teens in grades 6 to 12 are meeting at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 14 to discuss “Juliet Immortal,” a novel by Stacey Jay about a tragic couple meeting again as enemies. If you’d like to read this book and join the club, give the library a call at (574) 658-4312 and the library will place a hold on the book for you. Join teen members at 1 p.m. for snacks and a book discussion.

Discover new worlds and new friends at lego crew at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 14. Children ages five and up will love playing with Lego building blocks and using their imagination. Lego crew meets on the second Saturday of each month.

It’s easy to check out books, audiobooks and movies with your library card on Overdrive, the library’s digital consortium of materials. Overdrive offers thousands of bestsellers, including nonfiction and fiction titles, and collections for kids and teens. You can also download 260 songs a year from popular artists like Pentatonix, John Legend, Adele, Kenny Chesney and more with Freegal, a music downloading service. Even better, both services are absolutely free and fines are never charged on Overdrive materials. You’ll need to use a pin number as a password for both sites, which you can get by giving the library a call at (574) 658-4312.
TABLET ASSISTANCE AVAILABLE THIS JANUARY
If you got a new tablet for Christmas, plan to visit the library this January so library staff can help set up an OverDrive account for you. We are happy to show you how you can download ebooks to your new device. We will also show you how to download music from Freegal. Give the library a call at (574) 658-4312 to make an appointment with one of our staff, and the library will get you started downloading ebooks and music for a Happy 2017.
