GREENFIELD — The Whitko girls basketball team closed out its appearance at the 2016 Greenfield-Central Tournament in style Friday afternoon. The Wildcats used some stingy defense to secure a 51-35 victory over Westfield in the fifth place game of the annual tournament. Whitko held the Shamrocks to just 17 points through the first three quarters to help secure the victory.
Brianna Cumberland, who joined the 1,000-point club at Whitko with her efforts on Thursday, led all scorers with 23 points. Aly Reiff chipped-in 19 for the ‘Cats. Whitko shot 24-28 at the free throw line. Reiff was one of eight players named to the All-Tournament team, six combined players were named from East Chicago Central and Greenfield-Central.
Whitko (13-2) will have a well-deserved break before hosting Rochester on Jan. 7 for a Three Rivers Conference showdown.
East Chicago Central topped Greenfield-Central 46-42 for the tournament title.
